Media Release

For Immediate Release

April 16, 2026

The Town of Petawawa is preparing for rising water levels and is offering sand and sandbags to help residents protect their properties during the current flood warning.

Sandbagging stations will be set up at below locations:

  • South Shore Drive
  • Shamess Road
  • MacGregor Bay Trail

Sand and empty sandbags will be available at each location today Thursday April 16th, 2026 at 12:00pm.
Please remember to bring your own shovel, as shovels will not be provided.

What Residents Need to Know

Sandbags are being provided as a support option for residents who wish to use them. The way sandbags are filled, placed, and used, and how effective they may be,  is the responsibility of each individual property owner.

The Town is unable to:

  • Provide on-site assistance or property‑specific advice
  • Guarantee protection from flooding or water damage

Residents should take action based on their own property conditions and personal needs.

Staying Safe During Flood Conditions

To help protect your home and family:

  • Keep drains, ditches, and culverts clear where it is safe to do so
  • Move important items to higher ground
  • Make sure sump pumps are working properly
  • Stay away from floodwaters — they can be dangerous and contaminated
  • Never drive or walk through flooded areas

Please continue to watch for updates and follow emergency instructions if issued at  www.petawawa.ca

The Town of Petawawa thanks residents for their cooperation and encourages everyone to take appropriate precautions during this time. For information or concerns, please call 613-687-5536.
