Weather Alert – Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Town of Petawawa this afternoon and evening (Tuesday, May 19, 2026).

Forecast conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing:

• Wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h
• Hail up to ping pong ball size
• Possible tornado activity

Damaging wind gusts are expected to be the primary threat. Localized power outages and damage to roofs, fences, tree branches, and temporary shelters are possible.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions closely and take precautions if threatening weather approaches.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends taking cover immediately if severe weather approaches.

Residents are also encouraged to be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours in the event of an emergency or extended power outage.
