Flood Warning Preparedness – April 19th, 2026

Media Release

For Immediate Release

April 19, 2026

The Town of Petawawa continues to monitor rising water levels on the Ottawa River and the Petawawa River as spring runoff and rainfall continue.

According to the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board, water levels and flows are increasing across the Ottawa River system. Minor flood levels have been exceeded in flood‑prone areas from Pembroke downstream, and levels are expected to continue rising over the next several days before stabilizing early next week. Reservoirs are being used to help reduce downstream flooding; however, weather conditions will continue to influence river levels.

Sandbagging Locations

The Town has established four sandbagging stations to assist residents:

  • South Shore Drive
  • MacGregors Bay Trail
  • Shamess Road
  • Melody Trail

Residents are reminded to take only what is necessary to ensure supplies remain available for others.

Flood Safety Reminders

  • Stay away from fast‑moving water and unstable riverbanks
  • Keep children and pets well clear of waterways
  • Secure loose outdoor items that may float away
  • Ensure sump pumps, culverts, and downspouts are clear
  • Never drive through flooded roadways
