The Town of Petawawa is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Fire Department Assistant to support the Fire Chief and department operations. This part-time role (21 hours/week) offers flexible scheduling and a dynamic work environment.

Description of Position:

Provides administrative support to the Fire Department.
Assists in researching and preparing correspondence, agreements, reports, grant applications, tender documents, minutes, by-laws and motions.
Assists with reviewing, updating and drafting by-laws related to the department.
Assists with preparation and publication of advertising and public notices.
Maintains and coordinates the permitting system for recreational and rural fires.
Tracks attendance hours and inputs data into payroll tracking sheet.
Assists the Fire Chief with the Town’s Emergency Management Program and Emergency Plan.
Responds to requests for departmental information from Council, staff and the public.
Sets up and maintains manual and computerized filing systems.
Coordinates meetings, events and schedules. Assists and coordinates special projects.

Qualifications:

Office or business administration diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of three years of experience in an administrative role; experience in a municipal setting is an asset.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational, planning, research and analysis skills.
Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
High level of computer literacy, specifically Microsoft Office 365.

Rate of Pay:

$28.49 – $33.52 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience and is based on a 21 hour work week. No health benefits are available with this position, however the successful candidate will have the option to join the pension plan.
