Public Survey - Proposed Expansion of Algonquin Trail Off-Road Vehicle Access Route - Phase 3
Council is considering Phase 3 of the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) By-law to allow Petawawa residents to access the Algonquin Trail directly from their residence on urban municipal roads without having to trailer their machines. This expansion applies only to “Off-Road Vehicles (ORVs)” including “All-Terrain Vehicles”, “Multi-Purpose Off-Highway Utility Vehicles”, and “Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles”.
“Extreme Terrain Vehicles” and “Off-Road Motorcycles” are prohibited from operating on any municipal road in the Town of Petawawa.
Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the ORV By-law permits ORV access on rural municipal roads without sidewalks or curbing. Phase 3 is intended to allow access on urban municipal roads east of Highway 17, with some exclusions, for residents who live on those urban municipal roads to travel from their homes to the Algonquin Trail and vice versa. The operation of ORVs on municipal roads is a privilege and should not be used to operate ORVs “just for fun”.
The area in question is bounded to the north by Paquette Road, to the east by the Ottawa River, to the south by Black Bay Road, and to the west by Highway 17.
It should be noted that the Town’s ORV By-law does not apply to any road on Garrison Petawawa’s north and south townsite, nor to any private roads within the municipality.
At this time, the Town of Petawawa is canvassing residents to receive any comments or concerns you may have regarding the intention to implement Phase 3 of the ORV By-law to allow ORV access on urban municipal roads east of Highway 17.
This survey will close at 11:59 p.m., local time, on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
