The Comfort Station is a legacy project recognizing the 25th anniversary of the amalgamation of the Town of Petawawa. The history of Petawawa dates back over 150 years with the incorporation of the Township in 1865. The Village of Petawawa was incorporated in 1961, however in 1997, the Township and Village were amalgamated to create the Town of Petawawa.
The Comfort Station is situated along the Algonquin Trail, the former CP rail line, and was built as a modern replica of a train station platform. The main feature of the amenity is the fully accessible washrooms open year-round, from early morning to late evening. Inside is a small rest area, office, and Visitor Information Centre. The Visitor Information Centre is stocked with local maps and friendly staff happy to share information about the community, amenities, local events, and programs.
An updated schedule and hours of operation for the Visitor Information Centre will be shared once the facility is officially opened.
As part of the Legacy Project, a commemorative boardwalk was installed around the outside of the building. This boardwalk provides an ideal opportunity for families and friends of Petawawa to become part of the story of this project. The purchase of a board with a plaque is $200.00 + HST. Space to participate is limited to the number of boards within the boardwalk.
