Entrance Permit

Entrance Permit

Before constructing a new entrance way, such as a driveway, laneway, or private road that connects to a Town road, residents are required to obtain a permit.

An Entrance Way includes any structure or facility used to access a Town road — such as a driveway, bridge, or a filled-in roadside ditch to enhance a lawn or frontage.

The Entrance Permit By-law helps ensure that:

  • All roadway users remain safe through the proper management of traffic entering and exiting Town roads;
  • Development throughout the community is supported in an organized and accessible way;
  • The Town’s road infrastructure is protected and maintained;
  • New developments have appropriate and legal access to public roads.

Entrance ways must be constructed in accordance with Town specifications. Unless otherwise approved in writing, all work will be carried out by the Town under the supervision of the Director of Public Works or a designated representative. Costs for this work are the responsibility of the applicant and must be paid in advance, as per the Town’s fee schedule.

Please note that decorative surfaces such as concrete, interlocking brick, or similar materials are not permitted within the road allowance portion of an entrance way.
