Petawawa, ON – On Thursday January 28, 2021 at approximately 1:18 p.m., the Town of Petawawa Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 3197 Petawawa Boulevard. Upon arrival fire crews were faced with heavy fire exiting the front of an automotive repair garage. Fire crews initiated a defensive attack as everyone from within the structure was accounted for and fire conditions prevented them from conducting an interior offensive attack. Firefighters were challenged with heavy smoke conditions, high winds and cold temperatures. It took approximately two hours, twenty-one firefighters, three pumpers, and a heavy rescue pumper to bring the fire under control. Garrison Petawawa Fire Department provided assistance with apparatus and force. At this time there are no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. Fire crews remained on scene throughout the night and into Friday morning, checking for fire extension and overhaul operations; the structure is a total loss. Reports of explosions could possibly be attributed to acetylene tanks, flammable and combustible materials in the garage. The cause of fire is currently under investigation. Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police, Renfrew County Paramedics, Hydro One and Enbridge also attended the scene.
