Public Transportation Feasibility Study

Public Transportation Feasibility Study

The Town, in partnership with Dillon Consulting Limited and having secured grant funding from the Federal Government through the Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada Fund, is conducting a public transportation feasibility study. Our goal is to assess the need for a public transit system in Petawawa.

Why Are We Doing This Study?

The Town of Petawawa is growing and the needs of our residents are changing. We have seniors looking for more independence, young people that need access to jobs and activities, and residents that need to travel to both local and neighbouring communities.

Implementing a public transit system is an exciting opportunity to provide more choices for getting around Town. A transit system could improve access to services, activities, and employment while helping to reduce traffic congestion.

What We’re Building On

This project will build on transit services that already operate in our community. Services that currently operate in our community include:

  • Petawawa Local Community Transportation (Carefor)
  • Local Taxi Services

Building on the services that are already available will improve these services and help drive Petawawa’s transit system in a sustainable, long term direction.

Project Scope

Investing in transit can help improve connectivity and access and reduce traffic congestion, providing both residents and visitors new options to safely, and affordably get around Town.

This study, as approved by Town Council, will explore the following opportunities:

  • Local transit services in the Town of Petawawa and extending to Town limits
  • Accommodating population and tourism growth across the Town
  • Detailed costing, design, and implementation strategies for the recommended public transit services.
