BEING A BY-LAW TO ESTABLISH A POLICY IN REGARD TO MAILBOXES IN THE TOWN OF PETAWAWA
WHEREAS pursuant to the provision of Section 308 of the Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1990, c.M.45 and amendments thereto, the Corporation is empowered to enact By-laws regulating the construction, maintenance and protection of boulevard abutting highways and the use of highways;
NOW THEREFORE be it enacted by the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Petawawa as follows:
the policy attached hereto as Schedule “A” titled “Town of Petawawa Official Policy re: Mail Boxes on Town Streets and Roads” is hereby accepted;
Schedule “A” is deemed to form part of this By-law; and,
This By-law shall come into force and take effect following the third reading.

TOWN of PETAWAWA OFFICIAL POLICY RE MAIL BOXES ON TOWN STREETS AND ROADS
PETAWAWA TOWN COUNCIL HAVE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO ADOPT A POLICY THAT THEY INTEND TO FOLLOW DUE TO PROBLEMS THAT HAVE PLAGUED THIS ISSUE IN THE PAST.
1- THE TOWN OF PETAWAWA ROAD DEPARTMENT WILL REPLACE OR REPAIR ANY MAILBOX POST THAT HAS BEEN PHYSICALLY DAMAGED BY SNOW REMOVAL EQUIPMENT (NOT FLYING SNOW) PROVIDED THE BOX HAS BEEN ERECTED AS SHOWN IN THE ATTACHED SKETCH. THIS SKETCH SHOWS THE PROPER CONSTRUCTION AS APPROVED BY THE POST OFFICE AND THE TOWN OF PETAWAWA.
2- THE TOWN OF PETAWAWA ROADS DEPARTMENT WHEN RECONSTRUCTING A ROAD WILL REMOVE ALL MAIL BOXES ON THAT ROAD AND REINSTALL THEM WHEN CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETED.
3- THE TOWN OF PETAWAWA ACCEPTS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPROPERLY ERECTED MAIL BOXES
4- ANY FURTHER EXPLANATION OF THE ABOVE SUBJECTS MAY BE OBTAINED BY CONTACTING THE ROAD SUPERINTENDENT AT 687-2692 OR THE C.A.O. AT 687-5536.

Placement: 16.00′ from Center Line of Roadway to the Mailbox post.
Height: 3.5′ Minimum from ground level to bottom of Mailbox.
Overhang: 2.0′ Maximum overhang for the Mailbox arm.
Construction: Wood or Steel Post and Crossbar. Mail Box should be hung by chains to permit swinging.
Location: Placed at the edge of the gravel shoulder, before the ditch slope.
