Fly YTA - Pembroke & Area Airport
The Pembroke and Area Airport sees close to 5,000 aircraft movements each year. The airport has a 5,000-foot x 100-foot asphalt runway as well as a full-length paved taxiway and a full-service terminal building with a ramp for parking. It is the only certified airport between Carp and North Bay.
The military, life-saving services, businesses, and tourists are among the users who benefit from having this local airport in our rural community. The airport supports Ontario’s Air Ambulance program, assists with supporting Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources fire fighting of 1,200 to 1,600 fires per year, provides aerial support for resource management of wildlife, fish, forest fires, floods, low water, dam failures and more, supports the RCMP and OPP in aerial policing activities and contributes to tourism opportunities. Many large businesses and key organizations would not be able to be located here without access to a fully certified and registered airport.
The agencies that use the runway include:
- Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry
- Ornge – Air Ambulance (Medevac)
- Ontario Provincial Police
- More than 100 businesses in Renfrew County and the Pontiac
- Department of National Defence (Garrison Petawawa and others military agencies)
- Special event visitors (ie: Rogers Hometown Hockey)
- Local pilots, tourists and aviation enthusiast
The Airport is overseen and publicly owned by a Commission comprised of the following interests; the Town of Petawawa, the Township of Laurentian Valley, the City of Pembroke, the Town of Deep River, the Township of Whitewater Region, the Town of Laurentian Hills and Garrison Petawawa.
The Airport is located at 176 Len Hopkins Drive, Pembroke ON (within the geographic boundaries of the Town of Petawawa).
Project Runway
The Pembroke & Area Airport has launched a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to repave its 5,000-foot runway, one of the longest in Eastern Ontario. The first 4,000 feet of runway was paved in 1968, with the remaining 1,000 feet paved in 1986.
The airport is seeking donations to ensure it can continue supporting the region’s quality of life. Supporters can contribute by “purchasing” a foot of runway for $250, with charitable tax receipts available.
