TREAT ACCESSIBLY
Spooky. Inclusive. Fun for Everyone!
The Petawawa Accessibility Advisory Committee is thrilled to continue their support of Treat Accessibly!
This inclusive initiative encourages homeowners to create a Halloween that’s fun and welcoming for all trick-or-treaters, regardless of ability.
Did you know?
More than 1 in 10 school-age children in Canada identify as having one or more disabilities. These kids—and their families, siblings, caregivers, and friends—can face barriers that make it difficult to join in the joy of trick-or-treating.
By taking part in Treat Accessibly, we can help remove those barriers and ensure every child has the chance to enjoy the magic of Halloween!
Join Us for a Spook-tacular Halloween!
Bring the family and celebrate Halloween with us on:
Date: October 31
Time: 5:00 – 7:00 PM
Location: Town Hall – 1111 Victoria Street
Meet members of the Petawawa Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Petawawa Fire Department as they hand out treats.
Say hello to Sparky the Fire Dog, snap a photo, and enjoy an evening full of Halloween spirit!
Don’t miss out on the treats, smiles, and spooky fun – we can’t wait to see you there!

What Can You Do?
Make Halloween fun and accessible for all trick-or-treaters by following these simple steps:
1. Choose an easy-to-access spot for treatsÂ
Set up at the foot of your driveway or another obstacle-free area.
Make sure children using mobility aids can reach your treats safely.
2. Display your FREE Treat Accessibly lawn signÂ
Pick up your sign at Town Hall.
Place it on your lawn to show families your home is welcoming and barrier-free.
The sign lets children with disabilities know they are invited to enjoy Halloween at your home.
Display the sign at least a week before Halloween.
This gives families and caregivers time to plan their trick-or-treating route.
3. Add your street to the Treat MapÂ
Follow the link below to include your street.
The Treat Map will be posted the week of Halloween to help families plan a fun, accessible route.
ACCESSIBILITY TIPS
All you need to do is take a few simple steps and you’ll be set up with a trick-or-treating station that every child can enjoy.
Provide Barrier-free Access     Â
Some trick-or-treaters may have difficulties navigating inclines, stairs, curving walkways, etc. Make sure to place your trick-or-treating station at a location that is easily accessible to all.        Â
- Make sure the path to your trick-or-treating station is well lit.
- Clear your driveway and pathways of any obstacles.
- Park your vehicle on the street or in your garage to allow easy access.
- Set up your trick-or-treating station at the end of your driveway or in your garage.
Â
If your home doesn’t have a driveway why don’t you use your vehicle to trunk-or-treat? Show your creativity and decorate your vehicle to make it extra special.
