Petawawa Activities
Stay Safe While You Enjoy the Water

Petawawa Point Beach is a beautiful and popular spot to swim, paddle, and relax by the river. To help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone, please keep the following in mind:

  • This is an unsupervised public beach. There are no lifeguards on duty, and swimming is at your own risk.

  • The Ottawa River can have strong currents, sudden drop-offs, and hidden rocks—always use caution in and around the water.

  • The area sees regular boat traffic from the nearby public launch and surrounding cottages—stay alert and give boats plenty of space.

  • Red and green buoys mark the official boating channel. This zone is for motorized watercraft only and is not safe for swimming or paddling.

  • Please avoid the boating channel at all times—these buoys help guide boats safely and keep everyone on the water protected.

  • Do not swim across to Blueberry Island. The stretch between the beach and island has strong currents, undertow, and limited visibility, making it dangerous even for experienced swimmers.

By following these guidelines and respecting the river, you’ll help keep Petawawa Point a safe and welcoming place for all visitors

Boat Launch

Petawawa Point features a concrete boat launch designed specifically for motorized small craft. Equipped with docking slips, it offers easy, safe access for launching and retrieving your boat on the beautiful Petawawa and Ottawa Rivers.

There is no fee to use the launch, making it a convenient and cost-free way to start your day on the water. Please be courteous to other users and observe all safety regulations while enjoying your boating adventure.

Boaters – Please Use Caution Near the Beach

Petawawa Point is a busy and beloved spot for swimming, paddling, and family fun. If you’re out on the water, please slow down and use extra caution when approaching the beach area.

  • As per the Canada Shipping Act, 2001, a maximum speed of 10 km/h (6 mph) is required within 30 metres (100 feet) of shore—even if no signs are posted.
  • These shoreline speed limits apply to all Ontario waters, unless otherwise indicated.
